Post-Nail Surgery Instructions

Post-Nail Surgery Instructions

1. Elevate your foot when you get home.
Mild pain is normal once the numbness wears off-this is part of the healing process. Over the counter medications that you would take for a headache is appropriate.

2. Keep the dressing on until bedtime
Do not remove the dressing before bedtime. If you notice bleeding, elevate your foot and apply ice. If bleeding continues or does not improve, call our office for further instructions.

 3. Before bedtime remove bandage, begin daily soaks.
Daily soaks with warm water and plain Epsom Salt for no longer than 20 minutes each day for one week. This helps to promote healing and drying of the area.

4. Apply ointment and bandage daily.
After each soak, gently dry the area. Apply a small amount of triple antibiotic ointment and cover it with a clean bandage or Band-Aid. Continue this daily for one week.

5. Follow instructions carefully for the best results.
Proper aftercare helps ensure smooth healing and reduces the risk of complications. Ignoring these steps may lead to delayed healing. If toe remains red and painful after 7 days, please call the office immediately or go to the nearest emergency room for evaluation.
